Monkey Repeat

Late last week I got an email asking if I could do a cake similar to the cake I made for my sister in law back in 2009.
While I didn't want to make an exact replica (since I love making them all different), I did use the same color theme and topped it with a monkey wearing sunglasses, that's where the similarities stopped.
I have to laugh at how much my cakes have changed from 2009 until today! But back to the cake.

This cake is made out of over 140 Pampers Newborn diapers and covered in monkeys, monkeys and more monkeys!!
Mr. Monkey, sporting his sunglasses, is showing off his super hero skills by climbing up the side of the cake (I caught him in the middle, just shy of the top). He's surrounded by Johnson and Johnson products, 2 pairs of socks, Gerber spoons, teethers, a wash cloth and two NUK pacifiers, among other surprises!
Check out his super hero cape!!

Congratulations to mommy and daddy to be!! Hope your little man enjoys his cake!

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

Monkey cake toppers are pretty popular, and I love doing monkey themed cakes. They are just so fun and playful, and cute!

This was a tad different, a monkey topper, but not monkey themed. A challenge, and I love it! The theme for this cake was sports. I was asked about doing an orange and aqua, sports themed, monkey topped cake.

The sports aspect was the easy part since there's always sports themed goodies out there. The color themed I worried about a bit since I didn't know what sort of ribbon I'd find and if I could find the perfect shade of aqua and orange. But luck was on my side!!
I fell IN LOVE with the color combination.

And when it all came together, I was over the moon excited. The picture I had in my head was exactly how it came out.

Since we didn't do one specific sport, I tried to include as many as I could. I started with the sports themed security blanket which included football, basketball, soccer and baseball. And seriously, what monkey isn't cute holding a football security blanket?!
I also found basketball themed NUK pacifiers
 There's also a baseball rattle
 Teethers
 Football socks
Johnson and Johnson products, Gerber spoons, pacifier holder, orange and blue phone rattle

And all of this surrounding 144 Pampers Newborn diapers.
This is the first time I've done a cake where the animal wasn't on top of the cake, but instead hanging on to the side of the cake. But with a monkey, it works!

This little guy is on his way to Chicago, hopefully bringing big smiles to mommy and daddy to be!

Frilly Frills

A friend that I've had since we were maybe 6 (could be younger, we're getting older and I can't remember anymore), contacted me and asked if I could do a cake for her best friend, who've I've also known for just about as long. I love being asked to do these cakes since I can really put a personal touch on them.

Funny story, my friend who contacted me, I did her cake a few years back for her baby girl!! (The girly pink one seen here).

My only guidelines for this cake was pink, baby animals, and girly.

Here's what I came up with.
I love the bright pink from top to bottom. The entire cake began with the ribbon (which you can see in the background of this photo. But while you're at it, go ahead and take a look at the super cute booties that I had made just for this cake!)
I wanted something animal print, but I didn't want to make it one animal centered (if that makes sense!!) From there, I just thought pink. Anything pink and girly was a must!!
This cake includes 144 Newborn diapers, wash cloths, Gerber spoons, Johnson and Johnson products, custom booties, newborn toys, teethers, NUK pacifiers, a pacifier holder, Carters monkey teether, socks and one super soft, super cute custom fleece elephant.

To make this cake extra girly, I added a lace skirt around the bottom layer, just giving it that little something "extra".

Congratulations again Kelly and Bill! And I can't wait to see your sweet little girl in just a few short months!!

Anchors Away!

A few months ago I offered a diaper cake in a silent auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The winner of the raffle contacted me and wanted to do a cake in a nautical theme. I also learned that daddy to be is in the military, so I wanted to include that as well.

And this is what I came up with.
As always, I used Pampers Newborn diapers to make the three layers. Around the layers I added Johnson and Johnson products, Gerber spoons, custom nautical rope burp cloth, custom anchor booties, a sailboat pacifier clip, NUK pacifiers, socks, wash cloths, and some fun baby toys.

I also contacted some vendors on Etsy to have custom pieces done to make this cake extra special. I had the blue anchor onesie made, as well as the anchor booties, pacifier holder, burp cloth and even the puppy on top.

This little guy is probably my favorite part. I had him custom made with the red bandanna (to match the color scheme) and the cameo ears for daddy to be.

Isn't he just the cutest?!!

Hope mommy and daddy to be loved their cake! And congratulations!

Pink Elephant

It's not every day that your father asks for a diaper cake to be made.

But that's just what happened.

A few weeks ago he came to me (well, actually I came to him, along with my husband and daughter, as we wanted to go swimming) and said that he missed his coworkers baby shower but wanted to send her a little something to celebrate the impending birth of her daughter. So I went to work.

My dad found out that her nursery is elephants, pinks and grays, so I set to work.

I started with the topper, which I actually purchased before finding out that the nursery would have elephants in it. Talk about lucky!
This cute little girl is made by the Taggies company, which make great products for little kids.

From there, it just came together.

This cake is made up of Pampers Newborn diapers, 2 NUK pacifiers, Soft tip spoons, Johnson and Johnson products, Carters elephant bib, a pair of newborn shoes, a carseat toy, wash cloths, and some teething rings.

I received word from mommy to be a few days ago saying that everyone arrived in once piece (Virginia to Colorado), so that's always a sigh of relief. But more important than that, she loved it. And that's what matters. Here's hoping you have a smooth delivery and enjoy every moment of having that sweet baby girl in your hands.

Winnie the Pooh

In the five years that I've been making diaper cakes, I'd never done one using Winnie the Pooh. How is that even possible?!!

Well that all came to an end a few weeks back when a repeat customer came back asking for a Winnie the Pooh themed cake for a coworker having a little baby girl. I couldn't wait to get started! And with a Winnie the Pooh theme, I knew there would be a ton of items out there that I could use.

I first went to Etsy to find items that were one of a kind. I first returned to Joeellztoo for custom shoes. This was my second time shopping here and I knew that I'd find something perfect. And I was right. After telling her about the theme and that it was for a little girl, she went to work. And what she came up with was PERFECT!!
I then did a little searching around to see what else was out there and I stumbled upon Rikapanda Crafts.

Seriously, aren't these the cutest things?!!

After placing my order, I got to work planning out the rest of the cake.

This cake is a four tier cake composed of 139 Pampers Newborn diapers, 2 NUK pacifiers, Johnson and Johnson products, an Eeyore chime carseat toy, the homemade shoes and homemade hair clips, 2 Winnie the Pooh wash cloths, 4 Gerber soft tip spoons, 2 Disney ring rattles, socks, a teething ring, pacifier clip and of course, a Pooh stuffed animal for the top.

I am THRILLED with how the cake came out. And I'm hoping that mommy to be loves it as well!!

Congratulations!

Monkeys Galore!

I had the honor of creating a cake for a high school classmate of mine to help her celebrate her little bundle of joy. Mom to be's mother contacted me and we discussed a three tier cake in a jungle/Sock Monkey and just all out green theme. Now, if you've been following this site for awhile, you'll know that I always love a good monkey theme cake (here, here, and here), so this one was right up my alley!!

I had been informed that mom to be would be using cloth diapers in addition to disposable diapers, so I wanted to include that in the cake. I decided to turn to my trusty friend Etsy to find just the right cloth diaper to include.

Etsy didn't fail me.
Now, being a mother who only used Pampers, I can't say that I knew what I was looking for when it came to cloth diapers, so I wanted to find someone who had knowledge in the area. Thankfully I found someone who had only used cloth diapers on her children, so she knew what worked and what doesn't. Eased my mine that I was providing my client with a top of the line cloth diaper. If you're looking for fun cloth diapers, please consider using Konstant Krafters on Etsy (Konstant Krafters), you won't be disappointed!!

I also turned to Etsy to find something fun to fit in with the Sock Monkey aspect of the cake. I know you can go into any store and find a Sock Monkey, but I wanted to take that a step further.
Probably the cutest little pair of booties I've ever seen!!!! Just like the cloth diaper, these are handmade (which I love since homemade things on a cake just makes it all that more custom and one of a kind) and are just so fun!! I found these in a cute little shop called joeellztoo.

From there, I filled in the rest of the cake with some of my staples as well as other fun, theme fitting items. Obviously the Pampers Newborn Diapers (108 total), Johnson and Johnson products, Gerber soft tip spoons, NUK pacifiers, a cloth diaper burp cloth, Carters socks (2 pairs), a giraffe teething ring, a Sock Monkey "lovey", an animal receiving blanket (used inside the cloth diaper to weigh it down a bit), and a bib- with a monkey on it.
I'm so thrilled with how everything came together, and love that mom to be loved it so much (as well as grandma and aunt to be who I had the pleasure of meeting when I dropped the cake off!!)

Laura, I hope you had an incredible baby shower!! And best of luck in the last few months of your pregnancy!!!
