Hello, Mate!

So a few weeks back I was contacted to make an Australian themed diaper cake, featuring Koala Bears and Giraffe's. Mom to be's good friend had mentioned that they had traveled to Australia a few times and she wanted that expressed in the cake. I pressed a little more to see if there were other hobbies, sports teams, animals, etc. that mom and dad to be were interested in that I could include in the cake to personalize it even more and was informed that mom to be is a big Bruce Springsteen fan (while her friend is NOT) and is also from New Jersey. She thought that adding something related to Springsteen would be funny since the two friends disagree on this love.

Doing a cake that revolved around a country that I've never visited was a bit daunting at first, but after a few internet searches, the ball started rolling.

The cake started with finding the ribbon. I was looking for something girly, but still with the Australian flair.
But, my favorite part of this cake, the "Jersey Girl" onesie that I found online.

As for the rest of the cake, it's made of approximately 140 Pampers Newborn Diapers, Gerber spoons, 2 NUK pacifiers, 2 teething rings, a giraffe rattle, a pull and shake carseat toy, socks, 2 wash cloths, a giraffe security blanket and a giraffe bib! Oh, and how can we forget the cute little koala bear sitting on top!

I'm thrilled with how it came out and hope mom and dad to be enjoy it as well!! And many congratulations on your new addition!!

Cars.... for Girls

Normally a request for a car diaper cake wouldn't be a big deal, but add in that it's for a little girl, makes it a little more challenging. But I was up for it!! And it was a cake that my 4 year old daughter could really get in to, the little car lover that she is!

Mom and dad to be are big NASCAR fans, so they were being thrown a car themed baby shower. I wasn't sure which way I was going to go with it, knowing that there would be a limited number of girly car items out there so I took a stance of, go out and look in stores and see what I could find.

I, of course, started with the NASCAR website, ordering two bibs for their favorite driver. From there, I found the ribbon. Naturally, any car ribbon I found was very "boyish", so I knew that I'd have to girl it up. Pink ruffle ribbon? Perfect!!
And after that, it just all came together. Pink toy car keys, check. Stuffed toy car, check. All things pink and purple, check and check.

This little baby is now in the mail on the way to California for a baby shower on Saturday. Safe travels little buddy!!

Petunia's

One of my mom's coworkers is pregnant with her first child and lovingly refers to her soon to be daughter as Petunia. So when their work was throwing her a baby shower, we knew that petunia's needed to be included in a diaper cake.

So, let me introduce you to the Girly Girl Petunia Cake.
Mom and dad to be have a lot of baby animals on their registry so we decided to run with that, adding in as much pink as we could, and finish it off with flowers.

And then, I threw something different in. For the first time, I made Cupcakes. Keeping with the flower theme, I even found special cupcake holders.

Congratulations Brooke. Can't wait to meet little Petunia!! The countdown is on!!!!

Monkey Repeat

Late last week I got an email asking if I could do a cake similar to the cake I made for my sister in law back in 2009.
While I didn't want to make an exact replica (since I love making them all different), I did use the same color theme and topped it with a monkey wearing sunglasses, that's where the similarities stopped.
I have to laugh at how much my cakes have changed from 2009 until today! But back to the cake.

This cake is made out of over 140 Pampers Newborn diapers and covered in monkeys, monkeys and more monkeys!!
Mr. Monkey, sporting his sunglasses, is showing off his super hero skills by climbing up the side of the cake (I caught him in the middle, just shy of the top). He's surrounded by Johnson and Johnson products, 2 pairs of socks, Gerber spoons, teethers, a wash cloth and two NUK pacifiers, among other surprises!
Check out his super hero cape!!

Congratulations to mommy and daddy to be!! Hope your little man enjoys his cake!

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

Monkey cake toppers are pretty popular, and I love doing monkey themed cakes. They are just so fun and playful, and cute!

This was a tad different, a monkey topper, but not monkey themed. A challenge, and I love it! The theme for this cake was sports. I was asked about doing an orange and aqua, sports themed, monkey topped cake.

The sports aspect was the easy part since there's always sports themed goodies out there. The color themed I worried about a bit since I didn't know what sort of ribbon I'd find and if I could find the perfect shade of aqua and orange. But luck was on my side!!
I fell IN LOVE with the color combination.

And when it all came together, I was over the moon excited. The picture I had in my head was exactly how it came out.

Since we didn't do one specific sport, I tried to include as many as I could. I started with the sports themed security blanket which included football, basketball, soccer and baseball. And seriously, what monkey isn't cute holding a football security blanket?!
I also found basketball themed NUK pacifiers
 There's also a baseball rattle
 Teethers
 Football socks
Johnson and Johnson products, Gerber spoons, pacifier holder, orange and blue phone rattle

And all of this surrounding 144 Pampers Newborn diapers.
This is the first time I've done a cake where the animal wasn't on top of the cake, but instead hanging on to the side of the cake. But with a monkey, it works!

This little guy is on his way to Chicago, hopefully bringing big smiles to mommy and daddy to be!

Frilly Frills

A friend that I've had since we were maybe 6 (could be younger, we're getting older and I can't remember anymore), contacted me and asked if I could do a cake for her best friend, who've I've also known for just about as long. I love being asked to do these cakes since I can really put a personal touch on them.

Funny story, my friend who contacted me, I did her cake a few years back for her baby girl!! (The girly pink one seen here).

My only guidelines for this cake was pink, baby animals, and girly.

Here's what I came up with.
I love the bright pink from top to bottom. The entire cake began with the ribbon (which you can see in the background of this photo. But while you're at it, go ahead and take a look at the super cute booties that I had made just for this cake!)
I wanted something animal print, but I didn't want to make it one animal centered (if that makes sense!!) From there, I just thought pink. Anything pink and girly was a must!!
This cake includes 144 Newborn diapers, wash cloths, Gerber spoons, Johnson and Johnson products, custom booties, newborn toys, teethers, NUK pacifiers, a pacifier holder, Carters monkey teether, socks and one super soft, super cute custom fleece elephant.

To make this cake extra girly, I added a lace skirt around the bottom layer, just giving it that little something "extra".

Congratulations again Kelly and Bill! And I can't wait to see your sweet little girl in just a few short months!!
